Restating problems

I think a good example of restating a problem through the use of media would be the war in Iraq. Where as we see various images of destruction and chaos, were not looking at the other side of the picture such as freedom amongst the people.

‘Opium fields spread across Iraq as farmers try to make ends meet’’

A series of words can often trigger off an automatic reaction without looking into the situation from another angle, such as the war on drugs in Iraq. Whereas the drug trade is supporting the Taliban and making them stronger, you may not think how this has come to be with the farmers having no free will. Straight away you may see the farmers looking into their own financial benefit but after looking deeper the farmers are often forced into doing this with the threat of losing their family to slavery as well as debts in which they are in simply from trying to survive.

‘Iraq war coming to an end’’

Here we have another trigger, leading to think differently without facts being made available. If the war in Iraq was coming to an end, then why do the governments want to send 50,000 more troops into the war? This trigger seems to suggest the opposite of the true facts, meaning the war in Iraq is still far from over and that we are just contributing to the loss of life of soldiers.
